James went to the ped. today. He is an astonishing 26 lbs, 4oz. and he is 30.5″ long. All is well and the doctor gave him immunizations for Hep A and Chickenpox today. Dad took him and said he did great. Tomorrow is the allergist, wish us luck!

No eggs.

I am a little bit mad. I do not like this “diet” James has to be on. I know a milk allergy would be worse, but I’m still mad. Mostly I am mad about lables and corporations. I have read that pasta has eggs in it. That even if there isn’t any egg ingredients, that they use the same machines to make the egg noodles as they do the wheat noodles… So, am I wrong to worry about trace amounts, I don’t know. Thats my first question for the allergist. She also told me that DHA/AHA lables that you see all over baby food, are fish and egg.. That isn’t mentioned anywhere. I would not know this if she didn’t tell

Happy Birthday Sweet Baby James

Posted in james at 3:18 pm by Anne Marie

One year oldFriday, July 17th James turned one. It was very quiet day, without much deviation from normal. We woke up, went to school, I picked him up and we went home and to bed. They did decorate his daily sheet they give me when he comes home from school and one teacher made him a red crown with red glitter! We (i.e. Josie) helped James open up his presents before bed! What a cutie, and what a mess. James constantly reminds me of how lucky I am to have him… Seriously.. 2 life threatining illnesses in less than a year. Geez.

James, here’s to a healthy next year! I love you man!

Well, Sunday, July 12, was Uncle Sam’s Birthday! Happy birthday US! We had a most interesting morning and I didn’t get a chance to call and wish him a happy birthday.. In fact, he called me later that night to check on us.

As it turns out, James is allergic to eggs. Not just, oh, he shouldn’t eat that, but NO EGGS, No Egg products. Hmmm. Here’s what happened.

Mom and Josie woke up and proceeded to wake up James, give him a bottle and dress him for the day. I asked Josie what she wanted to eat, and she told me it had been a long time, and she wanted eggs. So I agreed. I scrambled eggs for me, Josie and James, thinking that eggs are a good soft transitional food. Note: No one in our family has food allergies…yet. So I give Josie hers, put James in his high chair and feed him some scrambled eggs. He only took 2 little bites. He immediately had hives on his face and was itching. Then his eyes watered up. I assumed he had a tiny bit of pepper, even though I just put the tiniest amount in there. He obviously did not want any more, so I picked him up and brought him downstairs. At Childrens

He threw up twice, needed to be changed, and I called the doctor to see if I could give him benadryl and if so, how much. She called back stating yes, and gave me the dosage. She asked how he was doing, and I said he fell asleep. She told me to keep him right next to me, to take him in if he is coughing or wheezing. So, I did.. then headed to the store for some benadryl.

I didn’t want to give it to him immediately, as he threw up again while I had been talking to the nurse. So I went to get drive thru coffee, when I heard him wheezing. Then he threw up all over the back seat. You should have heard Josie! Then when he was crying he sounded really hoarse, so I drove to the Children’s clinic near my house, and called the nurse on the way. We didn’t wait long, then I had 4 nurses in there with an epi-pen, they put a line in, and gave him benadryl and cortosteriods.. Needless to say Josie was a trooper, but was scared. Finally, I called Neil to get her, and James and I traveled via ambulance (running hot – as Uncle Cooper would say) to Children’s downtown.

He was fine after that, jittery from the epi, sleepy from the benadryl, but we were discharged about 4 that afternoon. I am glad he is okay! Everyone was nice and helpful, and it was a good ending. I don’t want to go do that again though! James will be allergy tested soon!

11 months and Counting

Posted in james at 11:29 am by Anne Marie

I can’t believe it, but in a little over 2 weeks, James will be one. It’s a good thing, because people already think he’s 18 months, but just can’t walk yet. Geez.. We will be celebrating with a simple party with the grandparents at a hibachi restaurant. I cant wait!

If you are one of those people who would want to send a gift, please consider a donation to Gabe’s Hope, a charity for heart babies, that mom is working on setting up. They provide an “essentials” bag to families within the RNICU at UAB. We will also provide meals on holidays for families who feel they cant leave. Prayers are also welcome!

Back from Vacation

Posted in josie at 11:12 am by Anne Marie

What a fun time we had… Mom left on the 17th loaded up with the 2 kiddos! We stopped in Jackson to pick up Papi, and he helped make the trip much easier, AND paid for McDonalds… not to mention helping me juggle! Plus, true to the Lumsdens, Papi knew where all the Starbucks were along the way! We arrived at Memere’s at 5, and the kids got their eeeby-jeebies out. YEA! Mom had a beer!

Thursday mom went grocery shopping and packed up a cooler. Neil flew in at 4 and Josie was excited to see him! The first words out of her mouth were, Did you know Memere has FOUR tvs? HA. Sorry kiddo, we just have one. Its huge, but you have to share with your parents! Cooper and Stephanie stopped by to load up all the stuff for the lake. They were great! Cooper got everything ready for us to come up. Put luggage in rooms and food in the fridge.

Angie and Juan flew in that night at midnight, and Neil and I went to pick them up at the airport, then headed north to the lakehouse! They must have been trusting as we are driving down the dirt roads! We arrived and opened up the beer, catching up on work and friends and lives. We finally crashed about 3.

Friday and Saturday were great, and there were no kiddos. Friday, Cooper made 6 racks of ribs and beans and took us all over the lake, pulling us on skis and taking dad’s new boat “Bateau Nadeau” out. Really fun, really hot, lots of cold beer and the wind in our hair as we go 60mph over the lake on that crazy new jetski! Saturday, Coop and Steph left and Taylor arrived! Its a shame we couldn’t see both of them simultaneously, but it was fun!
Josie and Daddy

Sunday was Father’s day and we had a great time with grandparents, kids, and friends making icecream, jetskiing and tubing

A special thanks to Memere and Papi for letting us use the toys!!!!

Gabe’s Hope

Mom is on the board of Gabe’s Hope. It is a non profit organization that will provide a gift/essentials bag to parents of “heart babies” in the NICU. Since the parents of children with heart defects rarely know there will be a problem, it is a difficult process. James and Gabe were RNICU buddies, and Gabe’s mom really helped my mom understand what all the machine settings meant, and some basic RNICU vocabulary. Gabe’s mom wasnt fortunate enough to be able to keep Gabe, and he went to be with God, we are going to continue shining his little light for others. There are big things in the works, and lots of support already, but we always need more. If you are interested in sponsoring an essentials bag, let mom know! She’ll be working on the website more in the next month: www.gabeshopeinc.org

Love you Gabe!

Vacation is-a-coming!

Well, this time next week, the Ellis’ should be arriving in Houston to visit! James and Josie will have a great time visiting with their grandparents, while mom and dad head up to the lakehouse with friends from Arizona. A much needed break! Two nights without kids, and the parents are actually off work. That hasn’t happened since Christmas! Let’s open some wine! We’ll be sure to post photos of the trip! It should be fun!

A tooth!

Friday, June 6th I noticed James had a little tiny piece of something sticking up thru that bottom gum! Yea! A tooth. He’s approaching 11 months, so mom was anxious!!!
